This was not really what I had in mind when I was reading such a story.
It is about a war, but at the same time what happens outside of the war is wholly uninteresting as a whole. And mostly rather disappointing in how it handles the story.
Nothing really happens and although I like the narration, I feel that there was nothing between these pages. Alexandra is mostly a rather passive character and she doesn’t really do anything to find the ashes of the woman who died under he watch or something like that.
I didn’t mind that it took some time to come into its own, but mostly that it took way too long to actually try to do anything for that matter. And that the two separate plotlines don’t really converge, and even then I didn’t really get the point of it at the end of the day.
Overall, I did expect more from this. Given who is the author and bow popular she is, and how acclaimed her works were. But it might just not be for me.
