I was really not interested. It was incredibly exposition heavy but never went much deeper than that.
The story is too polite. The characters are indistinguishable and it doesn’t give the writing any emotion. Or even anything that gave the writing something that made it interesting.
I do like long series mysteries. But after a while I feel that the progression for a lot of them tend to be rather poor. They are one off shorts without any intention at all. And here it doesn’t feel as though it has anything that kept me really reading.
The main murder mystery was hastily introduced. With no clear weight given to the sudden death apart from dying. And giving the characters something to do.
Overall, this simply didn’t have anything that gave it charm. And it certainly didn’t take advantage of the time period to its fullest extent.
